Volvo Takes Major Leap: 12,000 Tesla Superchargers Now Accessible to Electric Volvo Drivers in North America

In an unprecedented move, Volvo Cars, a future-focused electric vehicle manufacturer, has inked an agreement with Tesla. This grants existing and future Volvo electric vehicle drivers access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, spread across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This first-of-its-kind deal signed by a European automaker amplifies the charging infrastructure for Volvo drivers, offering 12,000 new fast-charge points.

By 2025, all future Volvo cars in North America will come equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port, as per the agreement. Current Volvo electric models, from the XC40 and C40 Recharge to the recently unveiled EX30 and EX90, are expected to integrate with the Supercharger network via an adapter from 2024. Volvo drivers wishing to retain their Combined Charging System (CCS) will have access to an adapter.

The agreement bolsters Volvo’s commitment to a fully electric transition by 2030. "We’re taking a major step to remove charging infrastructure barriers for Volvo drivers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico," said Jim Rowan, CEO at Volvo Cars.

Furthermore, the Volvo Cars app will provide drivers with information on tens of thousands of public charging stations across the United States and Canada, including real-time availability and the ability to pay for charging through a single interface.
