The Technologies That Make the Volvo XC60 so Efficient

The Volvo XC60 is one of the most efficient premium SUVs in Canada due to a number of advanced technologies that keep its fuel consumption to a minimum

The standard hybrid powertrain

New for 2022, every version of the XC60 benefits from an electrified powertrain. The standard unit, called B5, is composed of an economical turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine and a small electric motor that runs on a 48-volt electrical system. The role of this motor is to provide help to the gasoline engine when accelerating or to keep the same speed when climbing a hill. Doing so removes some of the load from the engine and allows it to use less fuel to move the vehicle. The additional torque of the motor also improves the acceleration and the smoothness of the powertrain by providing a fluid power delivery. The total output of this system is set at 347 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. If you want a bit more power while keeping a low fuel consumption, the optional B6 powertrain adds a supercharger to the gasoline engine in order to boost its output up to 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The Comfort Mode

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is equipped with a drive mode selection feature that lets you choose between two or three drive modes, depending on your vehicle’s equipment. In order to achieve an optimal fuel economy, the Comfort mode is to be prioritised. This setting allows for the best efficiency from the powertrain as well as the best comfort from the adjustable steering system and the available air suspension. In this mode, the 8-speed automatic transmission uses shift points that are determined to be the most efficient and the smoothest, while the engine is tuned to be more ecological than in Polestar Engineered mode, which is available on certain models.
