Every Volvo vehicle earns Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS

Volvo vehicles have always been known for their impressive safety. Volvo has been an innovator in the field of safety, offering many advanced technologies before the competition and even today, Volvo stands out by offering driver assistance systems that you rarely find on other models.


That said, Volvo does more than simply innovate. It also builds vehicles designed to protect you and your family in any situation. It is not surprising that every Volvo vehicle on sale today has earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation.


The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is the leading organization when it comes to evaluating the safety of new vehicles on the market. The IIHS puts new vehicles through their paces using very advanced collision testing as well as driver assistance technologies and even headlight evaluations.


To earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation, a vehicle must receive top grades in all of the collision tests including the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. A vehicle must also receive top grades for its available front crash prevention technology as well as a Good or Acceptable rating for its headlight performance.


The overlap tests are particularly challenging as they evaluate a vehicle's ability to protect documents when a collision occurs with an object on the front corners of the vehicle. This area has the least structural protection, and it is very difficult to prevent cabin intrusions when there is a collision in this area.
